The future of the prosthetics system in Ukraine

Education, innovation, and new opportunities for veterans in Ukraine

The future of the prosthetics system in Ukraine is a new format of cooperation between the university, business, and a foundation that transforms the approach to engineering education, shapes a modern prosthetics system, and opens a path to a new profession for veterans. We develop modern engineering education, create a new scientific foundation, and build the prosthetics system of the future in Ukraine.

## Інноваційний <br> простір

An inclusive technology hub in the field of engineering, additive technologies, and veteran support at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky. A true example of transforming university spaces into centers of applied science and innovation.

Since May 2025, students, engineers, and veterans have been working here daily.

This is a space where the first prototypes of prosthetic parts are created, polymers for 3D printing are tested, and new opportunities emerge for veterans.

Our Results

70+

students and interns are learning and working in the innovation space

33+

veterans are studying in the innovation space in the "Veteran Master's Program"

70+

training samples and prototypes

25+

prosthetics for veterans

15+

conferences and scientific competitions held in the innovation space

THANKS TO OBRIO

Created an inclusive innovation space

Purchased modern 3D printers and consumables

Acquired licensed Materialise software

Created comfortable conditions for students and veterans

Supported the launch of prosthetics laboratories

Mission — to create a modern accessible space and equip it with a farm of 3D printers for training students and veterans.

OBRIO provides the technological foundation that will strengthen the modern prosthetics system in the country.

“At OBRIO, we were looking for a way to help not just pointwise but systemically. Amputations have become a painful symbol of this war: more than 50,000 Ukrainians have already lost limbs — often multiple, often complex. And these are not just numbers. These are lives changed forever. We could not stand aside. We wanted to be part of a solution that makes real changes in society.
We want similar hubs to appear in other regions. We want educational programs to become part of the national education system. We want Ukrainian students who are learning 3D printing today to create breakthrough bioengineering solutions tomorrow — here, at home. In Ukraine.”

“The value of this project lies in synergy. We bring together students, researchers, educators, partners, and those who have returned from the front. That is why the training and innovation center for prosthetics and rehabilitation, reskilling programs, and the master's program for veterans have become a natural continuation of our mission. Veterans not only gain a new profession but also become creators of solutions that they themselves help improve.

We are building an ecosystem where new certificate programs emerge, startups grow, laboratories for 3D printing, modeling, design, and scanning operate, and engineering developments find real applications in medicine and prosthetics. This is a space where everyone can contribute to solutions that carry human meaning and transform quality of life.”
